Etown Gets 700th All-Time Victory in 10-0 Blowout of Juniata
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Nationally 25th-ranked Elizabethtown College became just the third NCAA Division III men's soccer program ever to total 700 victories all-time when it defeated Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata College 10-0 at home Wednesday night. The win boosts the Blue Jays' season record to 12-2-3 overall and 5-0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference. All-time, the Blue Jays are now 700-220-68. Juniata dropped to 5-11-1 overall and 1-5 in the conference with the loss.
Etown first got on the scoreboard at 17:56 when Andrew Kummerer (Glenmoore, PA/Coatesville) scored the first of his three goals for the night on a short breakaway off an assist by Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont). Kummerer scored again at 27:38 off a Michael Terry (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) assist. Less than a minute later at 28:20, Brian Zalasky (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) scored off another Healy assist. Kummerer completed his hat trick when he scored an open net goal at 29:13 on an empty net off an assist by J.T. Liss (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional). Brian Raveling (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) scored off a Daniel Gring (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) assist at 42:18 to give Etown a 5-0 lead going into halftime.
Healy opened the scoring in the second half with his first goal of the game on a header at 48:37 off a pass by Brennan Reichenbach (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove). Healy scored again on another header at 50:00 off a corner kick by Liss. Steve Petrosky (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored on an open net at 60:54. Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area) scored a pair of goals just 17 seconds apart at 64:34 and 64:51 to complete the scoring. Terry got his second assist of the game on Helsel's first goal.
Etown goalie Edwin Tichenor (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) played the first half and made two saves, while A.J. Fleisher (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown Area) took over in the second half in the net for Etown and didn't need to make any saves as the two split the shutout.
Etown out-shot Juniata 24-5 over the course of the game.
Elizabethtown will return to action on the road against nationally ninth-ranked Commonwealth Conference rival Messiah College Saturday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the annual Marshmallow Trophy game, the final regular-season game of 2004.
