JACKSONVILLE, Ill. --- Elizabethtown’s record now stands at 1-0-1 overall after tying Westminster College (Mo.) 2-2 on the second day of the MacMurray College Bill Killen Classic. Westminster scored first as Ryan Orf scored on a header off a cross pass in the 21st minute. Etown sophomore Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored at 30:30 to even the score at 1-1. He headed the ball in off assists by Steve Petrosky (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Wes Bunting (Lancaster, PA/J.P. McCaskey). Just over nine minutes into the second half, Westminster took a 2-1 lead on a Matt Mercer goal. Diller scored his second goal of the game in the 68th minute to tie the score again at 2-2. This time he was assisted by Bunting and Rick Winstanley (Manchester, England, UK/St. Gabriel's). Neither team managed to score again for the rest of regulation time, nor through two 10-minute overtime periods. Elizabethtown held a 17-5 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks over the course of the game. Elizabethtown will return to action in its 2006 home opener, the annual Smith-Herr Bronze Boot game against Franklin & Marshall College Wednesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. Westminster (Mo.)
