ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER
Elizabethtown Defeats Lebanon Valley 4-0
ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Elizabethtown College improved to 6-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the Commonwealth Conference Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 home win over Lebanon Valley College. Lebanon Valley dropped to 3-7 overall with the loss and 0-3 in the conference. The win brings Elizabethtown head coach Arthur D. “Skip” Roderick to within four victories of reaching the 400 career win plateau.
Elizabethtown scored its first goal 39:21 into the game when Brian Raveling (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick by Brennan Reichenbach (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area), who subsequently scored. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
At 58:27, Elizabethtown went ahead 2-0 as Josh Hoffman (Schaefferstown, PA/ELCO) scored his first goal of the season off a cross pass by Rick Winstanley (Manchester, England/St. Gabriel’s). Etown went up 3-0 at 74:22 as Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season off an Owen Freidrich (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) cross pass in front of the net. Elizabethtown scored again just 35 seconds later as a Diller pass down the middle of the field hit Mike McCabe (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley), who scored his first goal of the season on a fast break.
Elizabethtown out-shot Lebanon Valley 16-11 over the course of the game. Blue Jay goaltenders A.J. Fleisher (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown Area) and Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) combined on the shutout, with Fleisher playing the first 74:57 and making three saves, and with Mullen playing the final 15:03 and making two saves.
Etown will return to action on the road Wednesday, October 4 in a non-conference game at Muhlenberg College at 7:00 p.m.
