Elizabethtown Blows Out Juniata 6-0; Etown Head Coach Skip Roderick Gets 398th Career Win
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- With a 6-0 home blowout of Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata College Wednesday night, the Elizabethtown College men’s soccer team improved to 8-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference, and Etown head coach Skip Roderick earned his 398th career win, bringing him within two wins of becoming only the ninth men’s soccer coach in NCAA Division III history to reach the 400 win plateau. Juniata dropped to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference with the loss.
The first 24 minutes of the game were scoreless, until Brennan Reichenbach (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area) scored off an Owen Friedrich (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) assist at 24:13 to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. Mike McCabe (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) scored off a Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra Area) assist at 27:22, and Helsel scored off a Bryan Holt (Hershey, PA/Lower Dauphin) assist at 40:54 to give Etown a 3-0 lead.
Reichenbach scored his second goal of the game off a McCabe assist at 50:08 to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead, and Etown went up 5-0 when Friedrich scored unassisted at 55:47. Dan Flaherty (West Chester, PA/Henderson) scored the game’s final goal, as well as his first of the season, off McCabe’s second assist at 70:32.
Elizabethtown out-shot Juniata 27-6 over the course of the game, and the Blue Jays held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Elizabethtown will return to action at home Saturday, October 21 against Wilkes University at 4:30 p.m. as part of the College’s Homecoming festivities.
