ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Saturday, September 1, 2007 Fourth-Ranked New York University Defeats HOBOKEN, N.J. --- Jeritt Thayer scored a pair of goals to give fourth-ranked New York University a 2-1 victory over Elizabethtown College in men's soccer action at the Stevens College Classic on Saturday afternoon.
After Elizabethtown (0-1-0) had taken a 1-0 lead on a goal by senior George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford), Thayer scored at 25:58 and again at 58:54 off assists by Anthony Tumbiolo to give the Violets (1-0-0) the win. Severini's goal came at 23:17 as he headed home a corner kick from first-year player Andrew Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Northeast Catholic) to give the Blue Jays an early lead. New York University finished with a 21-10 advantage in shots while Elizabethtown took six corner kicks to five by the Violets. Junior Greg Snow (Avon, CT/Suffield Academy) made seven saves in his first career start for the Blue Jays, while Chris Wright finished with two stops for the Violets. The Blue Jays will face Skidmore College on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the second day of the Stevens Classic, after the Thoroughbreds dropped a 4-0 decision to the tourney hosts in Saturday's other game.
