ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Sunday, September 2, 2007 Elizabethtown Shuts Out Skidmore 3-0 HOBOKEN, N.J. --- Senior George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford) scored two first-half goals to spark Elizabethtown College to a 3-0 win over Skidmore College in men's soccer action at the Stevens Classic on Sunday afternoon.
Severini, who scored the only goal for the Blue Jays (1-1-0 overall) in a 2-1 loss to nationally-ranked New York University in the season opener on Saturday, tallied in the 12th and 21st minutes to give Elizabethtown a 2-0 lead. The first goal by Severini came at 11:56 as he deposited the rebound of a shot by first-year student Taylor Helsel (Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock), while his second goal followed at 20:58 on a six-yard shot. Junior Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) closed out the scoring for the Blue Jays as he drilled a cross by senior Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) into the top left corner with 14:50 remaining in the match. Elizabethtown posted a 15-10 advantage in shots, while both teams took four corner kicks. Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) made his first career start a success by recording the shutout while making two saves. Jake Densen started in goal for Skidmore and made three saves, with Chris Ford relieving for the final seven minutes and making no stops.
