ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Friday, September 7, 2007 Elizabethtown Uses Four Second-Half Goals Click here for the box scores: ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- A four-goal second-half outburst propelled Elizabethtown College to a 4-0 victory over Saint Vincent College in the JAKO/Brothers Pizza Blue Jay Classic at Ira R. Herr Field on Friday evening.
Junior Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored two goals and added an assist while senior Brian Raveling (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) notched a goal and an assist as the Blue Jays (2-1-0 overall) scored all four goals in a span of 23 minutes, 20 seconds early in the second half. After a scoreless first half, Diller put the Blue Jays ahead for good when he blasted a shot past Bearcat keeper Brandon Bower with 42:19 remaining in the contest. Senior Michael Terry (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) extended the Etown lead to 2-0 with 36:13 to play as he took a touch pass from Diller and buried a shot from the top of the box. With 21:05 to go, Diller scored his second goal of the match and third of the season as he took a perfect crossing pass from Raveling and deposited the ball into the goal to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 edge. Raveling capped the scoring just over two minutes later as he took a through pass from freshman Taylor Helsel (Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) and found the net for a 4-0 lead with 18:49 left in the match. Elizabethtown finished with a commanding 21-7 edge in shots and took nine corner kicks versus one by Saint Vincent (1-2-1 overall). Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) posted his second straight shutout for the Blue Jays by making three saves, while Bower finished with seven stops for the Bearcats. In Friday's other game, Franklin & Marshall College defeated Hampden-Sydney College 4-0 as Ryan McGonigle scored two goals and added an assist for the Diplomats, who led 3-0 at halftime.
