ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Thursday, September 13, 2007 Elizabethtown Holds Off Drew, 1-0 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Bryan Holt (Hershey, PA/Lower Dauphin) scored the only goal of the match in the 21st minute as Elizabethtown College came away with a 1-0 victory over Drew University in non-conference men's soccer action at Ira R. Herr Field on Thursday evening.
Holt tallied his first goal of the year at 20:47 after a corner kick by first-year student Andrew Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Northeast Catholic) was played to junior Wes Bunting (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey), whose header went to Holt and on to the back of the net. The Blue Jays (4-1-0 overall), who won their fourth straight game, had to play the final 27 minutes, 36 seconds a man down after a red card was assessed following a hard foul. Despite several excellent scoring opportunities by the Rangers (3-2-0 overall), the Elizabethtown defense held on for the victory. Elizabethtown finished with a 9-7 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in corner kicks over Drew. Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) improved to 4-0 in goal for the Blue Jays by making three saves, including a sprawling stop on Drew's Greg Zizik with 14:21 left to preserve the one-goal lead. Jeff Rogers made four saves in goal for the Rangers. Drew (3-2-0) vs. Elizabethtown (4-1-0) Shots: Drew 7, Elizabethtown 9 |
