ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Saturday, September 15, 2007 Elizabethtown Picks Up Fifth Straight Victory with 3-1 Win Over Alvernia ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Junior Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) scored a pair of second-half goals to boost Elizabethtown College to a 3-1 victory over Alvernia College in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday night at Ira R. Herr Field. Senior George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford) added a penalty-kick goal and assisted on the first goal by Diller as the Blue Jays (5-1-0 overall) earned their fifth consecutive victory and their seventh straight home win dating to last season. Morgan Davidheiser scored on a header in the 56th minute for the Crusaders (1-5-0 overall), who were outshot 17-6 in the hard-fought contest, which saw the two squads combine for 37 fouls and eight yellow cards. Severini gave the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead 19:32 into the match as he was taken down in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick for his fifth goal of the season. The 1-0 lead held until early in the second half, when Diller played a beautiful header off a Severini free kick past Alvernia keeper Richard Kessler to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead with 36:28 to play. Just two minutes later, the Crusaders got on the scoreboard as a free kick by Tim Marcinek was headed home by Davidheiser to pull Alvernia within 2-1. Diller added his second goal of the night and fifth of the season with 23:34 remaining as he took a pass from first-year student Andrew Filewicz (Wenonah, NJ/Northeast Catholic) and rifled home his fifth goal of the year to push the Elizabethtown lead to 3-1. Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) moved to 5-0 on the season in goal for the Blue Jays by making two saves, while Kessler finsihed with seven stops for the Crusaders.
