Elizabethtown Picks Up 3-0 Shutout Win over Moravian
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Two early goals proved more than enough as Elizabethtown College defeated Moravian College 3-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford) continued his scoring outburst with his team-high 10th goal of the season just three minutes into the contest, while junior Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) added his seventh goal less than seven minutes later for the Blue Jays (9-2-0 overall).
Severini has scored five goals in the last three matches for the Blue Jays, who have won nine of their last 10 contests. His goal came at 2:44 off an assist by senior Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), while Diller scored unassisted off a turnover at 9:30 to extend the Etown lead to 2-0.
In the second half, senior Michael Terry (Beech Creek, PA/Central Mountain) capped the scoring with 38:16 to play with his third goal of the season off a rebound of a shot by Helsel, who earned his second assist of the match.
Elizabethtown outshot Moravian (3-8-0 overall) by a 23-6 margin and finished with a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) improved to 9-1 on the season by making one save to earn his fifth shutout of the season, while Chris Nederostek made four saves over the first 73 minutes for Moravian before yielding to Tim Dollarton, who made two saves.
