ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Saturday, October 20, 2007 George Severini Scores Two First-Half Goals to Lead Elizabethtown to 2-0 Win over Widener on Homecoming View additional game pictures here ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Senior George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford) scored twice in a span of 4 minutes, 21 seconds late in the first half to lead Elizabethtown College to a 2-0 victory over Widener University in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Ira R. Herr Field on Saturday afternoon.
With a large Homecoming crowd looking on, Severini scored at 35:39 and 40:00 for his fourth two-goal game of the season, while increasing his conference-leading goal total to 13 for the Blue Jays (12-4-0 overall, 3-1-0 Commonwealth). Severini scored his first goal at 35:49 on a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box, and added his second tally of the day at 40:00 as he deflected home a shot by junior Dan Flaherty (West Chester, PA/Henderson). The Blue Jays outshot the Pride (7-9-0 overall, 1-2-0 Commonwealth) 12-7 and finished with an 11-4 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) posted his eighth shutout of the season by making three saves for the Blue Jays, while Marty Squicciarini made three stops for Widener.
