ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER Wednesday, October 31, 2007 Elizabethtown Moves to Commonwealth Conference Finals With 3-0 Semifinal Win at Lycoming WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Junior Wes Bunting (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey) scored a goal and added an assist as defending champion Elizabethtown College defeated Lycoming College 3-0 in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer semifinal action on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Matt Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) and senior George Severini (Havertown, PA/Haverford) added goals for the Blue Jays (14-5 overall), who advanced to their fifth consecutive Commonwealth Conference championship match on Saturday against Messiah College, a 4-0 winner over Albright College in Wednesday's other semifinal game. Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead just 2:42 into the contest as Diller scored his 11th goal of the season off assists by Bunting and senior Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra). Bunting tallied his second goal of the year at 38:05 as he converted following a throw-in by first-year student Tony Pacella (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson) to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead entering halftime. In the second half, Severini closed out the scoring at 78:53 with his team-best 15th goal of the season on an assist by senior Brian Raveling (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional). The Blue Jays were outshot by the Warriors (13-5-1 overall) 15-11 while Lycoming also held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Junior Jeff Mullen (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) earned his ninth shutout of the season by making nine saves for the Blue Jays, while Ryan Humphreys tallied five stops for the Warriors.
