ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S TENNIS Four Elizabethtown Players Compete at Wilson/ITA Atlantic South Regional SALISBURY, Md. --- Four Elizabethtown players competed at the Wilson/ITA Atlantic South Regional tournament, held at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md. Saturday and Sunday. No team scoring was kept in the tournament. It was the Blue Jays’ first action of the 2006-07 academic year. Elizabethtown’s traditional season in men’s tennis takes place in the spring. Three of Elizabethtown’s entries advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket in their respective events. In the Singles B Draw, first-year student Ryan Knarr (Robesonia, PA) fell in his opening round match, but battled back to win two consolation matches to reach the quarterfinals, including an 8-0 shutout win in the opening consolation round and an 8-2 win in the second consolation round. The Doubles Main Draw team of first-year student Maarten Albers (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and sophomore Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA) advanced to the consolation quarterfinals as well, where they narrowly missed reaching the semifinals in an 8-6 loss. In the Doubles B Draw, sophomore Zach Atkinson (Willow Street, PA) and Knarr teamed up to reach the consolation quarterfinals, winning their consolation first round match 8-1. The Blue Jays will see action one more time this fall when they host the Blue Jay Invitational October 28 and 29. At Salisbury, Md. |
