Blue Jays Sweep Past Lycoming, 9-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Six straight-set wins in singles helped Elizabethtown College to a 9-0 win over Lycoming College in Commonwealth Conference men's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference with the win, while the Warriors fell to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

At first singles, sophomore Brok Walker (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) downed Bobby Brown 6-1, 7-5, junior Jeff Kirkhoff (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) defeated Alex Beattie 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at second singles and senior Andrew Voshell (Chester Heights, PA/Garnet Valley) shut out Colin Baier 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.

First-year student Bryan Metz (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over John Stutzman at fourth singles, sophomore Brandon Stolar (Millville, NJ/Millville) picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over John Scarangello at fifth singles and first-year student Stijn Van Esveld (Bilthoven, The Netherlands) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Jeff Morcum at sixth singles.

In doubles, Kirkhoff and Voshell defeated Brown and Baier 8-3 at flight one, Walker and Metz beat Beattie and Stutzman 8-1 at flight two, and senior Jim Dombach (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) and sophomore Mike Steiner (Greensburg, PA/Greater Latrobe) knocked off Scarangello and Morcum 8-1 at flight three.
