KING'S HANDL WINS 2000 MAC SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP; DREW'S ALTER AND CARRERAS WIN DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Vlad Handl (Watkins Glen, NY) of King's College won the 2000 Middle Atlantic Conference singles championship, and Trey Alter (Baltimore, MD) and Anthony Carreras (Staten Island, NY) captured the doubles championship Saturday at the MAC Individual Men's Tennis Championships, hosted by Elizabethtown College.

The semifinal round began at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, and first-seeded Handl defeated number four seed David Kurvink (Bethlehem, PA) of Moravian, 6-3, 6-2, to earn a trip to the singles finals. Third-seeded Chris Hileman (Sinking Spring, PA) of Lebanon Valley upset Albright's number two-seeded John Fotopolous (Reading, PA), 6-0, 6-2 to also reach the final round.

In the doubles semifinals, top-seeded Alter and Carreras defeated sixth-seeded Ryan Arnold (Lebanon, PA) and Brock Hoover (Myerstown, PA), 6-3, 6-4. Number two-seeded Scott Czerwonka (Saylorsburg, PA) and Tom Height (Nescopeck, PA) of Elizabethtown downed Tom Crofton (Scranton, PA) and Paul Gerrity (Scranton, PA) of King's, 7-5, 6-2, to reach the finals.

In the singles championship, Handl defeated Hileman by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Alter and Carreras won over Czerwonka and Height, 6-1, 6-4, to win the doubles championship.
