Etown Defeats Lebanon Valley 5-2 in Commonwealth Conference Opener; Greg Voshell Breaks Doubles Win Mark

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 5-2 road win over Lebanon Valley College Thursday. Lebanon Valley dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss.

Etown swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, and when the number one doubles team of senior Greg Voshell (Chester Heights, PA/Garnet Valley) and first-year student Thomas Nyst (Apeldoorn, The Netherlands/Walter Bosch) won 8-5, Voshell surpassed the Elizabethtown program record for most doubles wins in a career. Voshell now has a career doubles record of 36-20, exceeding the previous career mark of 35-15 set by Joe Kramer '83 between 1980 and 1983.

Senior Josh Miller (Indiana, PA/Indiana) and first-year Pepijn Dekker (The Hague, The Netherlands/VCL) won 8-4 at number two doubles, and senior Erik Sawchuk (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) and first-year Yero Saponjian (Yerevan, Armenia/Oshavan) won 8-5 at number three doubles.

Nyst won 6-2, 6-4 at number one single for Etown, and Voshell won 6-1, 6-0 at number three. Miller took home a 6-3, 6-2 win at number four, and Dekker won 6-2, 6-3 at number five singles. Lebanon Valley's two points came on a pair of singles wins at number two and number six that went into match tiebreakers.

Elizabethtown will return to action in a non-conference road match Monday, March 21 against Muhlenberg College at 3:30 p.m.
