Elizabethtown College Men's Track and Field Elizabethtown Wins MAC Indoor Championship for Fifth Consecutive Year
SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- For the fifth year in a row, Elizabethtown College’s men’s track & field team has won the Middle Atlantic Conference indoor championship. The Blue Jays placed first out of 10 teams with a score of 114 points at the 2007 MAC Indoor Championships at Susquehanna University Saturday, edging out second-place Moravian College by 10 points. Elizabethtown athletes totaled 11 medals, six MAC event titles and five All-MAC Second Team performances (finishes between fourth and sixth place). Additionally, Elizabethtown first-year student Jason Kamery (Milford, NJ/Delaware Valley Regional) was named the 2007 MAC Indoor Men’s Rookie of the Year, and Etown head coach Chris Straub was named the 2007 MAC Indoor Men’s Coach of the Year.
Junior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) won a pair of individual event titles for Elizabethtown, as he took a gold medal in the 400m with a winning time of 49.61 seconds, 0.01 second shy of the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship provisional qualifying standard in the event, and a gold medal in the 800m with a winning time of 1:57.50. Patrick Donovan (South Pasadena, CA/St. Francis) won the mile in 4:23.53 for Etown, and he took a bronze medal in the 800m with a third place finish of 1:58.91. Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) took home a gold medal in the pole vault with a winning clearance of 16’6,” a new MAC Indoor Championship record and an NCAA Division III Indoor Championship automatic qualifying performance. Clark also recorded two All-MAC Second Team performances with a fourth place finish in the 55m hurdles in 8.15 seconds and a fourth place showing in the long jump with a distance of 21’5-1/4.”
D.J. Lehr (New Oxford, PA/Bermudian Springs) captured a silver medal for Elizabethtown in the pole vault with a second place clearance of 14’6.” Also earning a silver medal was Jason Theobald (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale), who finished second in the 5000m in 15:23.63. In the mile, Brandon Bear (York, PA/Eastern York) took home a bronze medal with a third place finish of 4:30.45. A.J. Farris (Edgewood, MD/Joppatowne) earned a pair of Second Team All-MAC performances for Etown as he placed fifth in the 55m dash in 6.59 seconds and fifth in the 200m in 23.35 seconds. In the 400m, Kamery placed fourth in 51.21 seconds to earn a spot on the All-MAC Second Team as well.
Elizabethtown brought home two gold medals in the relays. The 4x400m relay team of Kamery, Phil Alder (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove), Kyle Grimm (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) and Graybeal won in 3:26.45, and the 4000m distance medley relay team of Ryan St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg Area), Grimm, Alder and David Cohen (Allentown, PA/William Allen) won in 10:29.89. In the 4x200m relay, Elizabethtown earned a silver medal as Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School), Jason Mastroianni (Macungie, PA/Emmaus), Kamery and Graybeal finished second in 1:32.35. The 4x800m relay team of James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East), Cohen, St. Clair and Donovan earned All-MAC Second Team honors with a fifth place finish in 8:14.93.
