Seniors Lead Elizabethtown College To Second Straight MAC Track and Field Championship, Kevin Clark Honored as Track Athlete of the Year

CHESTER, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's track and field team won its second consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference championship at Widener University on Saturday afternoon, climbing from third to first place on the final day of competition.

The Blue Jays, who were third with 53 points after day two, finished with 215.5 points to outdistance runner-up Messiah College (181.5 points) and third-place Widener (153 points).

Senior Kevin Clark (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) was honored as the MAC Track Athlete of the Year while head coach Chris Straub was honored as Coach of the Year in outdoor track and field for the second straight season.

Clark won three individual gold medals on Saturday, capturing the 110 hurdles (15.21 seconds), the 400 hurdles (55.36 seconds) and the pole vault (14 feet, 11 inches). He also finished third in the 100 meters (11.27 seconds) and was fifth in the long jump (21 feet, 1 1/2 inches) after taking third in the high jump on Friday.

Senior Drew Graybeal (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg), who was the MAC Track Athlete of the Year at the indoor championships, repeated as the MAC outdoor champion in both the 400 meters (47.99 seconds) and the 800 meters (1:56.86), while senior Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) won his second gold medal of the meet by capturing the 5000 meters in 15:45.99.

Also winning conference championships for the Blue Jays on Saturday were sophomore A.J. Farris (Edgewood, MD/Joppatowne) in the 100 meters (11.09 seconds) and junior Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) in the 1500 meters (4:00.55). Rulander also finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.07.

In addition, the men's 4x400-meter relay team won for the fourth straight year with a time of 3:20.78, as the team of sophomore Mike Mauger (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School), junior James Munnelly (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East), Rulander and Graybeal capped the meet by giving the Blue Jays their 10th gold medal of the championships.

Other top finishers were Mauger, who was third in the 200 meters (22.84 seconds) and seventh in the 100 meters (11.43 seconds), sophomore Wyatt Eaton (York, PA/Eastern York), who was fourth in the 200 meters (22.92 seconds), sophomore Elton Dos Santos (Philadelphia, PA/Penn Charter), who took third in the 110 hurdles (16.31 seconds) and seventh in the 400 hurdles (1:00.63), and Munnelly, who was seventh in the 800 meters (1:59.15).

In the 5000 meters, first-year student Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown) was second behind Bresnahan in 15:49.75, senior Ryan St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) finished fourth in 15:54.22, sophomore Myles Lund (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) took sixth in 15:58.67, and junior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) was seventh in 16:02.47.

In other field events, senior Jason Yurchak (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) tied for fifth in the pole vault (12 feet, 5 1/2 inches), junior Phil Alder (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) was sixth in the javelin throw (168 feet, 8 inches) and sophomore Mike Torre (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was eighth in the javelin (165 feet, 10 inches).
