Etown Successfully Defends Davis & Elkins Forest Festival Invitational Title

ELKINS, Wv. --- The Elizabethtown College men's cross country team won the Davis & Elkins College Mountain State Forest Festival Invitational for the second consecutive year Saturday. This year's Etown team posted an even stronger finish than in 2000, with the Blue Jays winning with just 23 points this year, against 49 points in 2000. The women's team did not race this weekend.

Amazingly, the Blue Jays placed five runners among the invitational's top ten finishers and four in the top five, with Dave Berdan (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) leading the way for Etown in second place with a 27:05 time - just six seconds behind the meet record and 1:06 faster than his finish last year.

Dustin Scott (Honey Brook, PA/Twin Valley) finished third overall in 27:28, a time 1:09 faster than his finish last year. First-year Matt Rockwell (Plymouth, NH/Plymouth Regional) finished fourth in 27:37, and Mike Zwatty (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) was Etown's other top five finisher, placing fifth in 27:49, a time 44 seconds faster than his 2000 finish.

Also finishing in the top ten for Etown was first-year Steve Sanko (Hazleton, PA/Bishop Hafey), who placed ninth in 28:18.

Placing in the top twenty was Blue Jay sophomore Josh Lyman (Parkside, PA/Sun Valley), who finished 17th in 29:09.

Alderson-Broaddus, an NCAA Division II school in West Virginia, finished second, and Messiah College placed third in the race.
