Etown Wins 4000m Title at Dickinson Invitational

CARLISLE, Pa. --- In a unique meet offering an international short (4K) and long (8K) course format, a variety of team scoring options, and a chance to see many of the top teams in the region, the men's varsity team won the short course format at the Dickinson Invitational Saturday, while five members of the junior varsity team placed 14th out of 27 teams in the long course format.

The varsity team finished first out of 21 teams over the short course with only nine points, and to the surprise of some defeated Haverford, the only team in the Mideast Region ranked ahead of Elizabethtown, which had 12 points.

Junior Dave Berdan (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) was Etown's highest finisher, placing second in the 4000m race in 12:19. Etown also took third and fourth places, with juniors Dustin Scott (Honey Brook, PA/Twin Valley) and Mike Zwatty (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) finishing in 12:25 and 12:38, respectively.

First-year Steve Sanko (Hazleton, PA/Bishop Hafey) took ninth place with a time of 12:56. Sophomore Kevin Roe (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) was Etown's fifth finisher in 13:02, good for 11th place, and Josh Lyman (Parkside PA/Sun Valley) finished in 14th place in 11:04. Etown's seventh and final finisher on the short course was Matt Miller (Macungie, PA/Emmaus), who placed 45th in the field of 118 runners in 14:10.

Leading the way for Etown's JV team over the 8000m course was José Miranda (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township), who finished in 27:48, good for 44th place in a tough 200 runner field. Sean Mulcahy (Towanda, PA/Towanda) and Nate Moore (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) finished 61st and 62nd, respectively, in 28:09 and 28:10. Chris Williams (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) took 73rd place in 28:29, and Sean Graves (Bethesda, MD/Walter Johnson) finished 85th in 28:41.

Elizabethtown will return to action Saturday, October 6 in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
