Etown Men Sweep Capital Area Classic, Etown Women Defeat Messiah, Fall to Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown college men's cross country teams opened the 2003 season with a bang Friday evening, as Etown defeated host Dickinson 15-50 and Messiah 15-45 to win the Capital Area Classic.

The Etown men swept the top five, with Steve Sanko (Hazleton, PA/Bishop Hafey) winning the race in 22:42. Jose Miranda (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) and Greg Wetzel (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East) finished second and third, respectively, with identical times of 23:11. Sean Mulcahy (Towanda, PA/Towanda) placed fourth in the 44 runner field in 23:21, and Matt Rockwell (Plymouth, NH/Plymouth Regional) took fifth place in 23:22. Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was Etown's top finishing first year, placing eighth over and sixth on the team with a time of 23:35. Chris Williams (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) placed 10th for Etown in 23:37, and Nate Moore (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) finished 11th in 23:44.
