Etown Finishes 2nd at Mideast Regionals, Blue Jays Heading to NCAA Division III Championship Meet November 20

MEADVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown finished second out of 34 scoring teams at the Mideast Regional Championships at Allegheny College Saturday, thereby qualifying as a team to compete at next Saturday's NCAA Division III Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. It is the fourth time in the last six years, and the first time since 2002, that the Blue Jays will run as a team at the national championship meet.

Four Etown runners earned all-Mideast Region honors by placing in the top 35 in the field of 249 runners over the 8000m course. Steve Sanko (Hazleton, PA/Bishop Hafey) was Etown's top finisher in fifth place overall with a time of 25:55. Jose Miranda (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) finished tenth overall for Etown in 26:05. Greg Wetzel (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East) placed 16th overall in 26:33, and Patrick Donovan (South Pasadena, CA/St. Francis) finished 21st overall in 26:42, thereby giving the Blue Jays a 47 second spread between their number one and number four finishers.

Etown number five runner Jason Theobald (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) narrowly missed All-Region honors, finishing 36th overall in 27:04. Also placing in the top 50 for Etown was Chris Williams (Dillsburg, PA/Northern) in 41st place overall in 27:11.
