Etown Men Finish 15th, Etown Women Finish 19th, at NCAA Division III National Championship Meet

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. --- Elizabethtown College was one of just 11 schools at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, held at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday, to have both its men's and women's teams competing. Both teams had highly successful days, with the Etown men's team finishing 15th in the nation and having two of its runners earn All-America honors, and with the Etown women's team finishing 19th in the nation in its first-ever national championship appearance and beating the other three teams from the Mideast Region in the process.

The Etown men totaled 341 points to place 15th out of 24 teams. By finishing in the top 35 in the 215 runner field, two Blue Jay seniors – Steve Sanko (Hazleton, PA/Bishop Hafey) and Jose Miranda (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) -- earned All-America honors. Sanko was Etown's top finisher in 27th place overall, having traversed the 8000m course in 25:13.6, and Miranda placed 31st in a time of 25:16.0. Junior Greg Wetzel (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks East) also finished in the top 100 for Etown, placing 99th overall in 25:59.1.

The Etown women totaled 432 points to place 19th out of 24 teams. Etown also placed first out of the four teams from the Mideast Region, defeating 20th place Dickinson, 21st place Allegheny, and 23rd place Haverford after placing third out of the four qualifying teams at the Mideast Regional just one week ago. Senior Melissa St. Clair (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) was Etown's top finisher in 103rd place out of 215 runners with a time of 23:21.11 over the 6000m course. First-year Jessica Cook (Harrisburg, PA/Bishop McDevitt) finished 111th overall in 23:24.6, and fellow first-year Katie Garner (Wyncote, PA/Cheltenham) placed 113th in 23:25.3.
