ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Etown B Team Finishes 6th out of 17 at Lebanon Valley Invitational FT. INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. --- Elizabethtown opened the 2005 season at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational Saturday by running its "B" squad. Said head coach Chris Straub, "Our goal at LVC was to give the guys currently outside our top seven a chance to compete and practice moving up through the field over an 8K distance." Still, the Blue Jay runners present at LVC finished sixth out of 17 scoring teams with a total of 166 points. Frostburg State won the meet with a score of 44. According to Straub, the race strategy for LVC was as follows: "The guys were instructed to stay completely aerobic through 2-1/4 miles, and then they could race the last 2-3/4 miles." He continued, "We had some good movement, although with the heat, lack of shade, hilly course, and the type of training we're doing now limited the guys in how much they could move up. The Blue Jays' top finisher for the day was sophomore Jon Slusser (Macungie, PA/Emmaus) in 19th place in a field of 164 finishers with a time of 28:34. Junior Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) placed 25th in 28:48 over the 8050m course, and first-year student Dylan Rulander (Russell, PA/Eisenhower) was Etown's number three runner in 39th place with a time of 29:30. Finishing fourth for the Blue Jays was senior Nick Patterson (Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) in 45th place in 29:48, and first-year student Scott Derkacz (Hugenot, NY/Port Jervis) was the Blue Jays' final scoring runner finishing fifth for the team in 54th place overall with a time of 30:17.
