ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Etown Finishes Fourth at Ohio Wesleyan Pre-National Meet DELAWARE, O. --- Elizabethtown finished fourth out of 13 teams with a score of 117 Friday at the Pre-National Meet of the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational. The meet brought together some of the best NCAA Division III cross country teams from around the country to run on the course for the 2005 NCAA Division III national championship meet in November. In addition to the pre-national meet for non-Ohio teams, OWU also held the Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship meet as part of its invitational Friday. The 20 Ohio and the 13 non-Ohio teams ran together but were scored separately. In a total field of 354 runners, Etown's top finisher was 27th overall David Cohen (Allentown, PA/William Allen), who finished the 8k course in 27:38. However, the Blue Jays excelled in finishing as a tight pack, which enabled them to score better than many teams with higher individual finishers. The gap between Etown’s number one and number five finishers was only seven seconds, as Ryan Mulcahy (Towanda, PA/Towanda) crossed the line in 27:41 for 31st place, Patrick Donovan (South Pasadena, CA/St. Francis) finished in 34th place in 27:44, Brandon Bear (York, PA/Eastern York) finished 38th overall in 27:45, and as Jason Theobald (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) finished 39th in 27:45 as well. Bear was only the fifth first-year student overall to cross the finish line. Etown will return to action Saturday, October 15, when the Blue Jays will split their squad between the Penn State National Invitational and the Gettysburg Invitational. At Delaware, O. |
