Elizabethtown College Men's Cross Country:
2005 Season in Review

The men’s cross country team won its Elizabethtown record seventh consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference title in 2005, topping the previous College mark of six conference championships in a row set by the men’s soccer team from 1962 to 1967. The Blue Jays did it in dramatic fashion – Elizabethtown entered the MAC Championships as the underdog to nationally 22nd-ranked Widener University, and by the time the race was over Etown had topped Widener by a single point.

Seven Etown runners earned All-MAC honors by finishing in the top 20 in the 134 runner field, including All-MAC First Team members Tyson Evensen ’07, Jason Theobald ’07, David Cohen ’07 and Greg Wetzel ’06, as well as All-MAC Second Team members Patrick Donovan ’07, Brandon Bear ’09, and Ryan Mulcahy ’08. Bear was named the conference’s Rookie of the Year.

Etown went on to finish fifth out of 40 scoring teams at the Mideast Regional championship meet, and three runners – Evensen, Theobald and Wetzel – earned All-Region honors by placing in the top 35 and qualified as individuals to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships, the highest number of Etown runners ever to qualify as individuals simultaneously.

At the NCAA Division III Championships, Evensen finished 106th in the nation, Wetzel placed 114th and Theobald finished 116th in the nation.

Wetzel was later named the MASAC Scholar-Athlete for men’s cross country.
