Elizabethtown Wins MAC Championship for Eighth Consecutive Year

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The longest-running dynasty in Elizabethtown College history extended it record conference championship streak as the Blue Jay men’s cross country team claimed its eighth consecutive Middle Atlantic Conference title Saturday by winning the 2006 MAC Championships at DeSales University. Elizabethtown’s score was 57 to place first out of 14 teams and topping second-place Messiah College, which finished with a score of 70.

The Blue Jays’ top finisher on the 8000m course was senior Patrick Donovan (South Pasadena, CA/St. Francis), who placed fourth out of 140 total finishers with a time of 27:37 to earn All-MAC First Team status. Also earning a place on the All-MAC First Team for Etown by placing in the top ten for was senior Jason Theobald (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale), who finished sixth in 27:58.

Two more Blue Jays placed between 11th and 20th to earn spots on the All-MAC Second Team. Sophomore Brandon Bear (York, PA/Eastern York) finished 11th overall in 28:12. Senior Dave Bresnahan (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) placed 13th overall in 28:25 to earn a spot on the second team.

Three more Etown runners came within 25 seconds of All-MAC finishes. First-year student Myles Lund (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) placed 23rd overall in 28:56, while senior David Cohen (Allentown, PA/William Allen) finished 24th in 29:02. Sophomore Scott Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) was 25th overall with a time of 29:07.

Elizabethtown will return to action November 11 at the Mideast Regional Championships at Waynesburg. There, the Blue Jays will try to qualify for the November 18 NCAA Division III Championships.
