ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Patrick Donovan Qualifies for Nationals; Donovan & Bear on All-Region Team; Elizabethtown Places Sixth at Mideast Regionals WAYNESBURG, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College finished sixth out of 39 scoring teams and 44 total teams at the 2006 Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Waynesburg College Saturday. The Blue Jays totaled 220 points in the meet, finishing outside of the top five for the first time since 1998. Haverford won the meet with a score of 51, and Allegheny placed second with a score of 54 as both teams earned the region’s team berths in the NCAA Division III Championships. Highlighting Elizabethtown’s performances was that of senior Patrick Donovan (South Pasadena, CA/St. Francis) who placed eighth overall to earn All-Mideast Region honors and qualify as an individual to compete at the NCAA Championships. His time on the 8k course was 26:45. Also earning All-Mideast Region honors by finishing in the top 35 in the 268-runner field was Etown sophomore Brandon Bear (York, PA/East York), who placed 29th in 27:21. As a team, Elizabethtown struggled somewhat through the race. “We were looking for a fourth place finish,” said Etown head coach Chris Straub, “but we fell short.” Donovan will return to action in the NCAA Division III Championship meet Saturday, November 18. The national championships are being hosted this year by Wilmington College (OH). Elizabethtown has been represented at every NCAA Division III men’s cross country championship since 1999.
