Elizabethtown Men Take Third at
Delaware Valley College Invitational

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men’s cross country team rested several of its top runners in the season-opening Delaware Valley College Invitational on Saturday afternoon, but still placed third in a field of 19 schools with a total of 120 points.

With half of the squad preparing for next weekend's Davis and Elkins Festival, the Blue Jays' top finisher was first-year runner Chris Heisey (Middletown, PA/Middletown), who covered the hilly 8,000-meter course in a time of 28:48.23 to take 12th place. Junior Jeremy Matula (Bath, PA/Northampton) was one spot behind in 13th with a time of 28:55.97, while first-year student Richard Greco (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) took 20th in 29:26.46.

Also running for the Blue Jays were sophomore Myles Lund (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), who was 23rd in 29:38.54, junior Evan Metz (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) in 52nd place at 30:46.76, and first-year student Adam Derkacz (Huguenot, NY/Port Jervis) in 59th place at 31:17.96.

West Chester University won the team title with 98 points, followed by University of Sciences with 116 and the Blue Jays with 120.

After the other half of the team competes at Davis and Elkins next Saturday, the full Blue Jay squad will be in action at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University on Friday, Sept. 28.
