FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Five Elizabethtown Athletes Named Commonwealth Conference Men's Soccer All-Stars ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. Five members of the 2001 Elizabethtown College men's soccer team have been named Commonwealth Conference all-stars. Making the conference first team from Etown included Brad Confer (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township), a junior defender, sophomore midfielder Charlie Haines (Hamilton, NJ/Hun School of Princeton), and sophomore forward Steve Custer (Baltimore, MD/Dundalk). Making the conference second team from Elizabethtown were senior defender Adam Dively (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) and sophomore forward Ryan Wattenschaidt (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford). Confer started all 21 games for the Blue Jays in 2001, tallying one assist for one point as the mainstay of the Blue Jays' backfield. Through three seasons, Confer has totaled seven goals and four assists for 18 points. He was named a Commonwealth Conference all-star in 2000 as well. Confer is majoring in biochemistry at Elizabethtown. He is a 1999 graduate of Manheim Township High School. Haines played in all 21 and started 19 of the Blue Jays' games this year. He finished the season second on the team with six goals, second with six assists, and second with 18 points. Over the course of his two-year career, Haines has totaled nine goals, 10 assists, and 28 points. This is the first time he has been named to the conference all-star team. He also plays on the Blue Jay golf team in the spring. Haines is majoring in accounting at Elizabethtown. He is a 2000 graduate of the Hun School of Princeton. Over the course of two seasons, Custer has tallied nine goals and 12 assists for 30 points. This is the first time he has been named to the conference all-star team. Custer is majoring in elementary education at Elizabethtown. He is a 2000 graduate of Dundalk High School. Dively played in 20 and started 19 games for Elizabethtown in 2001. Playing in the backfield most of the season, he also spent some time at forward and tallied three goals and four assists for 10 points this year, placing him fourth on the team in scoring. Over the course of four years, Dively totaled 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 career points. This year is the first time he has earned a berth on the conference all-star team. Dively is majoring in elementary education with a minor in business administration at Elizabethtown. He is a 1998 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. Wattenschaidt played in 20 and started 13 of the Blue Jays' games in 2001. He totaled six goals and two assists for 14 points this year. In two seasons, Wattenschaidt has totaled eight goals and six assists for 22 points. This year is the first time he was named to the conference all-star team. Wattenschaidt is majoring in business administration at Elizabethtown. He is a 2000 graduate of North Harford High School. Elizabethtown concluded the 2001 season with a 13-7-1 overall record, the program's 50th consecutive .500 or better season. The Blue Jays reached the championship game of the Commonwealth Conference tournament before falling to defending national champion Messiah, 1-0, in overtime. |
