Elizabethtown's Seth Guida Named Commonwealth Conference Baseball Player of the Week, Drew Kelley Named Conference Pitcher of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- A pair of Elizabethtown College baseball players swept the Commonwealth Conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the week ending March 23. Sophomore catcher Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) was named the conference's Player of the Week, and sophomore pitcher Drew Kelley (York, PA/Dallastown) was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week.

Guida batted six-for-11 (.545) for the week with three doubles, five runs batted in and three runs scored over the course of three games. He went three-for-six with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored in a 12-7 win over Johns Hopkins, which entered the game with a 9-1 record, March 18. In the first game of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader against Albright March 23, Guida went two-for-two with a double, a walk and a run scored as Etown won 3-1. In the nightcap, a 2-1 win over Albright, Guida went one-for-three at the plate and drove in both of Elizabethtown's runs.

Guida is currently batting .400, the second best average on the team. He is also second among the Blue Jays in runs batted in with 10, second in doubles with four, and third in base hits with 12.

Kelley started on the mound in the opening half of Etown's conference doubleheader with Albright March 23, and pitched the entire game as it spilled over into extra innings. Elizabethtown eventually won the game 3-1 on a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. Until that point, Kelley kept the Blue Jays in the game by allowing just three hits, one walk and one earned run over the course of eight innings. He also struck out four batters in that span en route to earning his first victory of the season.

Thus far this year, Kelley is 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA in 15 innings of work. He has eight strikeouts and just one walk, and he is holding opposing hitters to a .228 batting average. He was the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year last year.

The Elizabethtown College baseball team is currently 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Blue Jays will play again on the road against Albright in a single nine-inning conference game today at 3:00 p.m.
