lizabethtown College Sophomore Scott Beard Named Commonwealth Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College sophomore Scott Beard (Willow Grove, PA/LaSalle College H.S.) has been named the Commonwealth Conference's Pitcher of the Week in baseball for the week ending April 18. It is the first time in his career Beard has received the award, and it is the second week in a row an Elizabethtown pitcher has been named the conference's Pitcher of the Week.

The Blue Jay lefthander pitched the final inning of Etown's 13-3 nine-inning win over conference rival Albright College Friday, and he allowed one hit, one walk, and struck out two while finishing the game. He then started Sunday’s game against Dickinson, a 2-0 Etown win. He went 8-2/3 innings and allowed just three hits and four walks while striking out 12 batters to earn the victory. For the week, he allowed just four hits, five walks, and no runs in 9-2/3 innings while striking out 14 batters and going 1-0.

Thus far in 2004, his first season playing for the Blue Jays, Beard is 1-1 in seven appearances and three starts. In 20-1/3 innings of work, he has struck out 21 batters and allowed 25 hits and 15 walks.

The Elizabethtown College baseball team is currently 13-14 overall and will face Ursinus College in a nine-inning non-conference game today at 3:30 p.m.
