FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Two Elizabethtown College Women's Lacrosse Players Named to All-Conference Team ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Two Elizabethtown College junior women's lacrosse players, attacker Liz Fretz (Parkerford, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and midfielder Ally Edel (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) have earned spots on the All-Middle Atlantic Conference second team. This is the first time Edel has received all-conference recognition, and it is the third year in a row Fretz has been named to the All-MAC teams. For the third consecutive season, Fretz has led Elizabethtown in goals scored (37) and points (48). She also led Etown in draw controls (54) for the second year in a row in 2004. Her 11 assists ranked her third on the team this year, and she also scooped up 17 ground balls and caused nine turnovers in 16 games. Three of her goals scored this year were game-winners. Over the course of her three-year career, Fretz leads the Etown program in career goals with 146, career points with 181 and career draw controls with 127. She also has 35 career assists. She previously earned a spot on the All-MAC second team in 2003, and she was named to the All-MAC first team in 2002. In 2004, Edel led Elizabethtown in assists (16), ground balls (45), and caused turnovers (28). Her 45 ground balls this year were the most in a single season in program history. She also ranked second on the team in 2004 in draw controls (30), fifth in goals scored (11) and fifth in points (27). She tallied one game-winning goal this year. In three seasons, Edel holds the Etown career record in ground balls (87), and she is tied for the career record in caused turnovers with 55. She has also compiled 62 draw controls, and 42 career assists, the second most in program history in both categories. She has also totaled 41 career goals and 83 career points. The Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team was to have played its final game of the season at home today against Villa Julie, but that game has been cancelled due to wet field conditions. As a result, the Blue Jays have concluded their 2004 season with a 6-10 overall and 5-5 MAC record. Etown, in just its third season of intercollegiate competition in women's lacrosse, set program records for both most overall wins and most conference wins this year and finished .500 in the MAC for the first time. |
