FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Senior Sean Mulcahy Named MAC Spring Male Scholar-Athlete ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior Sean Mulcahy (Towanda, PA/Towanda), a member of the Etown men's track & field and men's cross country teams, has been named the male Scholar-Athlete for the 2004 Spring season by the Middle Atlantic Conferences. Only one senior male and one senior female student are selected as Scholar-Athletes each season by the MAC from among the MAC's sixteen member schools.
Mulcahy, who has served as the captain of both the men's track & field and men's cross country teams and is an accounting major at Elizabethtown, has been on the Dean's List six times at Etown and has been a member of the MAC All-Academic team every season since his sophomore year began. He is a member of Elizabethtown's chapter of Delta Mu, a national business honor society, as well as a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society for first-year students. In the summer of 2003, he was named a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II Second Team. In track & field, Mulcahy holds the Etown record in the outdoor 1500m (3:56.86) and he shares program relay records in the indoor 4x800m (8:02.11), indoor distance medley (10:23.78), outdoor 4x800m (7:56.28), outdoor 4x1500m (16:04.66) and outdoor distance medley (10:25.67). He totaled eight MAC Indoor & Outdoor Championship medals, including two gold medals, over the course of his career. In cross country, Mulcahy was a three-time All-MAC harrier, earning spots on the second team by finishing in the top 20 at the MAC Championship meet in 2000 and 2003 and earning a spot on the first team by finishing in the top 10 in 2002. He was also an All-Mideast Region cross country runner in 2003 by finishing 23rd at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship meet. The Elizabethtown College men's track & field team won its first-ever MAC Outdoor Championship in 2004, and the Blue Jays won back-to-back MAC Indoor titles in 2003 and 2004. The Etown men's cross country program has won five consecutive MAC titles from 1999 to 2003. In the 2003-04 academic year, the Etown men's cross country and track & field programs completed their first ever Triple Crown -- sweeping the MAC Championships in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. The outdoor track & field season will continue for Elizabethtown at the James Madison University Invitational Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9, as well as at the NCAA Division III Championships for individual qualifiers at the end of May. |
