ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Two Elizabethtown College softball players have been named to the All-Commonwealth Conference teams for the 2004 season. Senior shortstop Emily Morris (Canton, PA/Canton) earned a spot on the First Team, while first-year center fielder Kelli Thon (Victor, NY/Victor Central) was named to the Second Team.
Morris was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference First Team for the third consecutive year, and she received all-conference honors for the fourth year. In 2004, she batted .400 (48-for-120), and she led the team in batting average, hits, at-bats, runs scored (24), doubles (8), home runs (4), RBI (19), slugging percentage (.583), and on base percentage (.434). She also stole four bases and hit one triple in 2004. Her 48 hits this season was the second-highest season total ever at Etown, behind only the 54 hits she had in 2002. Her four home runs in 2004 was the fifth-highest single season total ever by a Blue Jay, and her eight doubles this year tied for sixth place all-time on Etown's single-season record list.
In four years at Etown, Morris batted .373 (168-for-451) with 85 runs scored, 51 RBI, 27 doubles, five triples, eight home runs, 13 steals, a .508 slugging percentage and a .425 on-base percentage. She holds the Elizabethtown program records for most career hits (168) and most career at-bats (451), and her .373 career batting average and 27 career doubles both rank second all-time at Etown. Her 85 career runs rank fourth at Elizabethtown, as does her career home run total of eight.
A two-sport standout at Elizabethtown, Morris also was a two-time all-conference player in volleyball, and she owns the Etown volleyball program record for most digs in a career.
Thon made a tremendous impact on Elizabethtown and on the Commonwealth Conference as a rookie in 2004. As one of the best bunters and fastest runners in the conference, she contributed over a quarter of the team's sacrifices with 11, and she batted .387 (43-for-111) over the course of the season. While bunting, she hit .375 (6-for-16) and totaled over half of the team's base hits on bunts, and when runners were on base, her batting average skyrocketed to .484 (30-for-62).
In 2004, Thon led Etown in stolen bases (11) and sacrifices (11), and she ranked second on the team in batting average (.387), hits (43), runs scored (16), and on base percentage (.424). She also ranked fifth on the team in runs batted in (13) while batting primarily in the number two spot in the lineup and third on the team in walks (7). She also used her speed to reach base on errors more times (6) than anyone else on the team.
The 2004 Elizabethtown College softball team finished 11-21 overall and 3-11 in the Commonwealth Conference.
