Elizabethtown College Senior Kate Gwilliam Named Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior midfielder Kate Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) has been named the Commonwealth Conference field hockey Player of the Week for the week ending October 12. It is the first time in Gwilliam's career that she has won the award, and it is the second week in a row an Etown player has been named the conference's Player of the Week in field hockey.

Last week, Gwilliam tallied a hat trick in Monday's 4-2 win over Delaware Valley, scoring three of the Blue Jays' four goals. In Thursday's 2-1 win over conference rival Juniata, Gwilliam assisted the game-winning goal, which was scored with just 2:04 remaining in regulation time. That win improved the Blue Jays to 2-2 in the conference and kept them in the playoff hunt.

Gwilliam currently leads Elizabethtown with six goals scored and 14 points, and she is tied for the team lead in assists with two in 13 games played. Gwilliam is a two-time All-Commonwealth Conference team member, having earned all-conference recognition at the conclusion of the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

The Elizabethtown College field hockey team is currently 4-10 overall and 3-1 in its last four games. Of the Blue Jays' 10 losses, five have come by a one-goal margin, and two of those games went into overtime.
