Etown First-Year Student Alice Yu Named Commonwealth Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week 

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College first-year student Alice Yu (Athens GA/Clarke Central) has been named the Commonwealth Conference’s Player of the Week in women’s tennis for the week ending September 11.

Yu surrendered just two games in two singles matches and two doubles matches as the Blue Jays went 2-0 last week. She won 6-0, 6-1 against Susquehanna University Thursday in number four singles and, with teammate Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett), won 8-1 at number three doubles. On Saturday, the Blue Jays hosted Meredith College (N.C.), which finished the 2004-05 year ranked 11 th in the Atlantic South Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Etown won that match 9-0, and Yu shut out her opponent in singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, and she and Lander shut out their opponents in doubles 8-0.

Thus far in her rookie year, Yu is 2-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles competition.

The Elizabethtown College women’s tennis team, which is the defending champion of the Commonwealth Conference and finished the 2004-05 year ranked 13 th in the Atlantic South Region by the ITA, is currently 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference. The Blue Jays will next host conference rival Juniata College in a 4:00 p.m. match at home Tuesday, September 13.
