Etown Senior Mel Slessinger Named Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week 

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior forward Mel Slessinger (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) has been named the Commonwealth Conference’s Player of the Week in field hockey for the week ending September 11.

Slessinger scored three goals in two games last week as Etown went 1-1. In Etown’s 4-3 win over McDaniel Saturday, the Blue Jays’ first win over the Green Terror since 2000, Slessinger scored to tie the game at 2-2 with just over 13 minutes to go in the game, and she scored the game-winning goal unassisted with just 1:40 remaining on the clock. Against nationally-ranked F&M Wednesday, she scored Etown’s first goal 3:35 after the start to tie the score 1-1.

Thus far this season, Slessinger is leading the Blue Jays in goals with four, in assists with three, and in points with 11. In her career, Slessinger has tallied 15 goals, three assists, and 33 points.
