Etown Senior Mel Slessinger Named Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior forward Mel Slessinger (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) has been named the Commonwealth Conference’s Player of the Week in field hockey for the week ending October 16. It is the second time this season she has received the honor.

Slessinger scored four goals in two games last week as Etown went 2-0. In Etown’s 2-1 Commonwealth Conference road win over Widener Thursday, she scored the game-winner. In Etown’s 5-2 home win over Dickinson Saturday, she tallied three goals.

Thus far this season, Slessinger is leading the Blue Jays in goals with 17 and in points with 38. She also has four assists to rank second on the team. Her current 2005 goal total is the 14 th-highest season total ever recorded in the 54 year history of the Elizabethtown field hockey program. In her career, Slessinger has tallied 28 goals, four assists, and 60 points.

The Elizabethtown College field hockey team is currently 11-3 overall and 3-2 in the Commonwealth Conference. The team is ranked 18th nationally in NCAA Division III. The Blue Jays will return to action on the road against conference rival Susquehanna University at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 20.
