Elizabethtown’s Laurelyn Foderaro Named Commonwealth Conference Women’s Tennis Playoff MVP; Kristy Trimbey Named Conference Tennis Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Two Elizabethtown College women’s tennis players have been honored for their efforts last week by the Commonwealth Conference. Sophomore Laurelyn Foderaro (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock Mennonite) has been named the Most Valuable Player of the 2005 conference playoffs, and senior Kristy Trimbey (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) has been named the conference’s Player of the Week for the week ending October 16. Etown won its second consecutive Commonwealth Conference title on Saturday and is currently 11-2 overall.

In the conference playoffs last week, Foderaro won 6-1, 6-4 at number two singles against Messiah College in the semifinals at Etown Wednesday, and she won 6-3, 6-0 at number two singles in the championship match on the road against Moravian Saturday. In doubles, she and teammate Stacy Shapiro (Audubon, PA/Methacton) won 8-3 at number one against Messiah and 8-1 at number one against Moravian.

Against Messiah last week, Trimbey won 6-2, 6-1 at number six singles, and she won 7-6, 6-3 at number six singles against Moravian. In doubles, she and teammate Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) won 8-4 at number three against Messiah and 8-4 at number three against Moravian.

Thus far this season, Foderaro is 10-3 in singles matches while competing primarily in the number three and number two slots for Etown, and she is 11-3 in doubles matches and has spent the entire season at number one. This his her first season playing for Etown.

Trimbey, so far this season, is 13-3 in singles while playing primarily number six, and she is 11-5 in doubles, having spent time at the number three, two and one spots. She holds the Elizabethtown career records for most doubles wins with 50 and for most combined singles and doubles wins with 98. She got her 50th career doubles win yesterday in a 9-0 Etown win over Immaculata. She is also second all-time at Etown in most career singles wins with 48. Her career mark in singles is 48-11, in doubles is 50-18, and combined is 98-29.

The Blue Jays will return to action as individuals Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23 at Lehigh University for the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) Individual Singles and Doubles Championships.
