Elizabethtown First-Year Student Matt Kutz Named Commonwealth Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College first-year pitcher Matt Kutz (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) has been named the Commonwealth Conference Pitcher of the Week in baseball for the week ending April 23. It is the first time in his career he has received the honor.

Kutz pitched a one-hitter last week in a 4-0 seven-inning home win over Lancaster Bible College April 17. He struck out ten batters while giving up one hit and one walk in seven innings of work to earn the win.

Thus far this season, Kutz is 2-2 with one save and a 3.16 ERA in 11 appearances and four starts on the mound for Elizabethtown. He has held opposing batters to a .211 average, and he has 29 strikeouts and 13 walks in 25-2/3 innings. The April 17 one-hitter was his first complete game and his first shutout of his collegiate career.

The Elizabethtown College baseball team is currently 17-12-1 overall and 9-7 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Blue Jays return to action at home Tuesday, April 25 in a conference doubleheader against Widener University beginning at 1:00 p.m. The games were originally supposed to be played Saturday, April 22, but they have been postponed due to rain three times.
