Elizabethtown College Sophomore Alice Yu Named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in Women’s Tennis

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College sophomore Alice Yu (Athens, GA/Clarke Central) has been named the Commonwealth Conference’s Player of the Week in women’s tennis for the week ending September 10. It is the second time in her career she has received the honor, having also earned the award one time in her rookie year.

Yu surrendered just one game in six singles sets last week as Elizabethtown went 3-0. In Etown’s 8-1 conference win over Susquehanna University, she won 6-0, 6-1 at five singles, and she and doubles partner Emily Swarr (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) won 8-1 at two doubles. In Etown’s 5-4 win over Franklin & Marshall College Saturday, she won 6-0, 6-0 at five singles, and she and Swarr won 8-2 at two doubles. In the Blue Jays’ 8-1 win over the University of Scranton Sunday, she won 6-0, 6-0 at five singles, and she and Swarr again won 8-2 at two doubles.

Yu went 3-0 in singles, 3-0 in doubles, and 6-0 overall for the week. The win-loss breakdown for individual games on the week for Yu was 36-1 in singles, 24-5 in doubles, and 60-6 overall.

In her career, the sophomore music major is 20-7 in singles, 18-6 in doubles, and 38-13 overall.

Elizabethtown is currently 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference in 2006-07, and the Blue Jays will return to action on the road Tuesday, September 12 against Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata College in a 3:00 p.m. match.
