Elizabethtown’s Heather Lander Named Commonwealth Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) has been named the Commonwealth Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week for the week ending September 17. It is the first time in her career she has received the honor.

Heather Lander '07.Lander became only the second Elizabethtown player ever to reach the 100 career victory plateau last week as the Blue Jays defeated Juniata 8-1 and Moravian 6-3 in a pair of Commonwealth Conference matches. Against Juniata, she teamed with first-year student Natalie Jamieson (Ellicott, MD/Howard) to win 8-3 at three doubles, and she won 6-1, 6-0 at six singles for her 100 th win combined between singles and doubles. Facing Moravian Saturday, she teamed with first-year student Cathie Martinez (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) to win 8-2 at three doubles, and at six singles, she won 6-1, 6-0. For the week, she was 4-0 overall, and on a game-by-game basis, 24-2 in singles games and 16-5 in doubles games.

In her career through September 17, Lander owns a 54-5 mark in singles, a 48-11 mark in doubles, and a 102-16 combined career record. She was the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) champion at number five singles in both 2004 and 2005, and she won the MASCAC championship at number three doubles in 2005.

Elizabethtown returns to action this afternoon in a 3:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference road match against Albright College.
