FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Sophomore Megan Angstadt Named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in Field Hockey Elizabethtown went 2-0 last week, defeating nationally number-one ranked Messiah College 2-1 Wednesday and downing Widener University 2-1 Saturday. Angstadt’s role in both games was critical. Against Messiah, she scored the game-winning goal three minutes into overtime as Etown handed the Falcons their first loss of the season. Against Widener, she scored the game-tying goal in the 57th minute as Elizabethtown rallied from a 1-0 deficit late in the game. For the week, she scored two of the Blue Jays’ four goals. Thus far this season, Angstadt has played in and started all 10 of Elizabethtown’s games. She has four goals and four assists for 12 points in 2006, and she is tied for the team lead in assists. In 2005, her first season as a Blue Jay, she scored three goals and had one assist for seven points while playing in all 18 of Etown’s games and starting 15 of them. Thus far this season, Elizabethtown is 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Commonwealth Conference. The Blue Jays are currently ranked 15th in the nation, and Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Wednesday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. against nationally 17th-ranked King’s College (Pa.). New national rankings for NCAA Division III will be released by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association (NFHCA) Tuesday morning. |
