Elizabethtown College Senior Heather Lander Named the MASCAC Scholar-Athlete for Women’s Tennis

Heather Lander '07.ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior Heather Lander (Accident, MD/Northern Garrett) has been named the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) Scholar-Athlete for women’s tennis for the fall 2006 season. The MASCAC comprises the 16 colleges and universities that are members of the Middle Atlantic Conference, the Commonwealth Conference and/or the Freedom Conference. One Scholar-Athlete, who must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 to be considered for the award, is selected by the MASCAC for each sport per year on the basis of academic and athletic accomplishments.

Currently in 2006-07, Lander has a 15-3 record in singles, a 17-4 record in doubles and a 32-7 combined record. Lander has won MASCAC individual championships at number five singles for the last three consecutive years. She was also a MASCAC champion at number three doubles in 2005, and she was named an All-Commonwealth Conference Second Team member in 2006.

Lander holds the Elizabethtown College career win records in singles, doubles and combined victories. Her career singles record is 64-8, and she has gone 60-15 in doubles and 124-23 overall. She also holds the Elizabethtown College single year win records in singles, doubles and combined victories with a 21-3 singles mark, a 20-2 doubles mark, and a 41-5 combined record, all set in the 2005-06 academic year.

Academically, Lander has been a member of the MASCAC All-Academic Team every fall season since her sophomore year. She is also a member of the Elizabethtown College Dean’s List and the Psychology Honors Club. She is majoring in psychology at Elizabethtown College.

The Elizabethtown College women’s tennis team is currently 13-2 overall and was the 2006 Commonwealth Conference runner-up. The team’s season will resume in March during its annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C.
