Elizabethtown College Senior Tara Fagan Named the MASCAC Scholar-Athlete for Women’s Cross Country

Tara Fagan '07.ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College senior Tara Fagan (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) has been named the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation (MASCAC) Scholar-Athlete for women’s cross country for the fall 2006 season. The MASCAC comprises the 16 colleges and universities that are members of the Middle Atlantic Conference, the Commonwealth Conference and/or the Freedom Conference. One Scholar-Athlete, who must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.2 to be considered for the award, is selected by the MASCAC for each sport per year on the basis of academic and athletic accomplishments.

A captain of the Elizabethtown women’s cross country team for the last two years, Fagan was a Second Team All-Middle Atlantic Conference runner this season after a 14th place finish at the MAC Championships. She also ran at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship meet this year for the second time in her career.

Also a member of the Elizabethtown College women’s indoor and outdoor track & field teams, Fagan has twice been a MAC champion on the oval in the indoor 4x800m relay in 2006 and the indoor distance medley relay in 2006. She has also been a Second Team All-MAC member three times with a fourth place MAC Championship finish in the outdoor 10,000m in 2005, a fifth place finish in the indoor 5000m in 2005, and a fifth place finish in the outdoor 10,000m in 2004.

Academically, Fagan has been a member of the MASCAC All-Academic Team every season since her sophomore year for a total of seven times. She is also a member of Delta Mu Delta, the national business honor society, and the Elizabethtown College Dean’s List. She is also an Elizabethtown College Scholar and an Elizabethtown Presidential Scholarship recipient. She is majoring in business administration at Elizabethtown College.

The Elizabethtown College women’s cross country team was the 2006 MAC runner-up and finished fourth in the Mideast Region. The team earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Championship meet, where the Blue Jays finished 31st in the country.
