Elizabethtown College Sophomores Katie Foley & Jenn Hawkins Named Middle Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of Week and Goaltender/Defender of Week, Respectively

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College sophomore attacker Kate Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference women’s lacrosse Player of the Week, and Etown sophomore goalie Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) has been named the MAC women’s lacrosse Goaltender/Defender of the Week. Both earned the awards for the week ending April 1.

Katie Foley '09.Foley scored five goals and assisted three more in Elizabethtown’s 18-6 win over Widener Thursday. In Elizabethtown’s 15-8 win over Drew University Saturday, the first time the Blue Jays had ever beaten Drew, Foley scored three goals and had one assist. She also led the team in ground balls with four and in caused turnovers with four in that game, and she had two draw controls against Drew. For the week, she totaled eight goals and four assists for 12 points.

Jenn Hawkins '09.Hawkins made seven saves in Elizabethtown’s win over Widener. In Etown’s win over Drew Saturday, she made 14 saves and had one ground ball. Due to compiling five cards over the course of the game, Elizabethtown had to play man-down for a total of six minutes mid-way through the second half, but Hawkins withstood a Drew shooting barrage and did not allow a single goal during either three-minute man-down period. That performance proved key in the victory, as six of Elizabethtown’s 15 goals came afterward during the last eight minutes of the game, while Drew only scored three times over the entire second half. The teams were tied 5-5 at halftime.

So far this season, Foley lead Elizabethtown in goals with 29, in assists with 12 and in points with 41. She also has 14 ground balls, nine draw controls and seven caused turnovers, and she has started all seven of Etown’s games.

Hawkins has also started all seven of the Blue Jays’ games and has played a total of 383:56. In that time she has allowed just 41 goals for a goals against average of 6.41, and she has made 78 saves for a .655 save percentage. She also won the MAC Goaltender/Defender of the Week award last week.

The Elizabethtown College women’s lacrosse team is off to its best start ever in the six-year history of the program, and the team has already tied its season win record. The Blue Jays are currently 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the MAC, and the team will next face MAC rival Susquehanna University on the road in a 7:00 p.m. game Wednesday, April 4.
