Elizabethtown College Sophomores Katie Foley & Jenn Hawkins Repeat as Middle Atlantic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of Week and Goaltender/Defender of Week, Respectively

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College sophomore attacker Kate Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) sophomore goalie Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) have been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week and Goaltender/Defender of the Week, respectively, in women’s lacrosse for the week ending April 8. It is the second week in a row that Foley has received Player of the Week honors, and it is the third week in a row that Hawkins has earned the MAC Goaltender/Defender of the Week award.

Foley broke the Elizabethtown single-game scoring record in the Blue Jays’ only game last week, an 18-9 road win over Susquehanna University Wednesday. She scored 10 goals in that game, breaking the old Elizabethtown record of nine set in the Blue Jays’ inaugural season of 2002. She also had two assists against Susquehanna for a total of 12 points, also setting a program single-game record in that category. Foley additionally had three ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls in that game.

Hawkins made eight saves, had three ground balls and totaled one caused turnover in Elizabethtown’s 18-9 win over Susquehanna that week. She started and played over 57 minutes of that game. This latest MAC Goaltender/Defender of the Week award is the third week in a row she has received it, and it is the fourth time in her career for the honor.

So far this season, Foley lead Elizabethtown in goals with 39, in assists with 14 and in points with 53. She also has 17 ground balls, 12 draw controls and 10 caused turnovers, and she has started all eight of Etown’s games.

Hawkins has also started all eight of the Blue Jays’ games and has played a total of 441:04 minutes. In that time she has allowed just 50 goals for a goals against average of 6.80, and she has made 86 saves for a .632 save percentage. She also has totaled eight ground balls and two caused turnovers in 2007.

The Elizabethtown College women’s lacrosse team is off to its best start ever in the six-year history of the program, and the team has already broken its old season win record. The Blue Jays are currently 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the MAC, and the team will next face undefeated MAC rival Lycoming College at home this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Lycoming is currently ranked 16th in NCAA Division III in the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association poll and is 10-0 overall.
