FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College to Join Metropolitan Intercollegiate Wrestling Association ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College has accepted an invitation to join the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (MIWA) for the sport of wrestling beginning in the 2007-08 season. The Blue Jays will join ten other schools in the conference, which produced two NCAA Division III national champions in 2007. Elizabethtown was a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference in wrestling until the end of 2005-06, at which point the MAC discontinued its sponsorship of the sport. In 2006-07, the Blue Jays competed as an independent in wrestling and finished 10th out of 15 teams at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional tournament after posting a 6-5 record in dual matches. Elizabethtown also posted the sixth-highest team grade point average in all of NCAA Division III in 2006-07. Elizabethtown will join ten other schools, including three former MAC rivals, in the MIWA in 2007-08, including Centenary College, Hunter College, former MAC member King’s College (Pa.), SUNY-Maritime, The College of New Jersey, New York University, former MAC member University of Scranton, former MAC member Wilkes University, Yeshiva University and York College (Pa.). The MIWA Championship tournament, which will be hosted by Wilkes in 2008, is an NCAA Division III national championship qualifier tournament. |
