FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Elizabethtown College Junior Erin Fisher Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Two First Team in Cross Country/Track & Field Fisher had a breakthrough year in 2006-07, and she began the year in the fall by becoming the first runner in Elizabethtown women’s cross country history to win the Middle Atlantic Conference individual title. She finished first out of 132 finishers at the MAC Cross Country Championships October 28, 2006 at DeSales University. It marked the first time in her career she earned All-MAC First Team status in cross country as well, and she was named the MAC Runner of the Year. She then placed fifth out of 281 runners at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Cross Country Championships at Waynesburg College November 11, 2006 to earn All-Mideast Region honors for the first time in her career. She capped off the 2006 cross country season November 18 at the NCAA Division III Championships at Wilmington College (O.) as she placed 67th out of 279 finishers to help Elizabethtown to a 31st place finish in the nation. Moving to the 2006-07 indoor track & field season, Fisher won the MAC title in the 5000m and was the silver medalist in the mile run. She also helped the Blue Jays earn a silver medal in the 4x800m relay at the MAC Indoor Championships. In the 2007 outdoor track & field season, Fisher qualified to compete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships for the first time when she ran the 10,000m in a provisional qualifying time of 36:43.41 at the Penn Relays Carnival in April. She then went on to win two individual MAC titles in early May, as she took gold medals in both the 5000m and the 10,000m at the MAC Outdoor Championships. She concluded the outdoor season by finishing 16th in the nation in the 10,000m at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in late May. Over the course of the 2006-07 academic year, Fisher has been named to the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation All-Academic Team three times, and she was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team. She also received the same awards in the 2005-06 academic year. Fisher is double majoring in biology and mathematics at Elizabethtown College. To be nominated for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be of at least sophomore academic standing with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve. |
